Elm Tree Section Fell

These pictures are of section felling a Large Elm Tree in Holton St Mary, Essex.

The Elm Tree had become infected with Dutch Elm Disease and after liaising with the local council for over 12 months the decision was taken for the tree to be felled.

Given the position of the tree, great care had to be taken when section felling. Most of the canopy needing to be ‘soft felled’ which involves lowering the branches to the ground on ropes and with the aid of friction devices.

The tree had significant amenity value to the village and generated a lot of interest when we were undertaking the work. The trunk maintained value and was sold for furniture and boards.

After we had finished the work, we supplied and replanted a resistant species of Elm in its place to be enjoyed for generations to come.
